Dash of This and That- Kitchen Measurements
There is a difference between dry and wet measuring cups. Have both types on hand for successful results in the kitchen.
Dry Measuring Cups: Usually Nesting metal or plastic cups, ranging in sizes from 1/4 cup to 1 cup. you can also use solid fat like butter, shortening or peanut butter. After spooning ingredients in the measuring cup level off with a straight edge .
Liquid Measuring Cups: Glass or plastic cups come in 1, 2, 4 and 8 cup sizes. Place the measuring cup on a flat surface and read at eye level.
Measuring Spoons: May be used for liquids and dry ingredients. Use a straight edge to level ingredients off.
Small Measurements:
hint 1/2 drop (tiny amount)
drop 1/64 teaspoon (1/2 smidgeon)
smidgeon 1/32 teaspoon (1/2 pinch) very small amount
pinch 1/16 teaspoon (1/2 dash)
dash 1/8 teaspoon (1/2 tad)
tad 1/4 teaspoon

4 sticks butter = 32 tablespoons = 16 ounces = 2 cups
3 sticks butter = 24 tablespoons = 12 ounces = 1 1/2 cups
2 sticks butter = 16 tablespoons = 8 ounces = 1 cup
1 stick butter = 8 tablespoons = 4 ounces = 1/2 cup
1/2 stick butter = 4 tablespoons = 2 ounces = 1/4 cup
1/4 stick butter = 2 tablespoons = 1 ounce = 1/8 cup
1/8 stick butter = 1 tablespoon = 1/2 ounce = 1/16 cup
5 1/3 tablespoons of butter = 1/3 cup
